Listening to the Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor. Op 18 is an extraordinary experience due to the enormity of the music alone and then the stunning colours and movement of my synaesthesia.It is a multi-sensorial experience as I sense the feeling of the Russian landscape in which the music was composed. The music to me is deep, intense and has pervading tones of grief, loss and sadness yet magnificent surging melodic lines and power. There is a balance of grace and tenderness that allows me to be moved in the most secure way. I can sense the wind, huge bells, glorious buildings, biting cold and a vastness that is somehow comforting.
